Dog-Friendly Parks

As you well know, dogs love their exercise, and there’s no shortage of dog parks and pet-friendly beaches in the Lido Key/Sarasota area where you can bike, hike, walk, run, play ball, and do all the things that make dogs happy and tire them out.

Is Lido Key Beach pet-friendly? This particular beach is not, but there are several very nice ones in the area that accept dogs.

An off-leash beach area, as well as an enclosed dog park (not in the sand), is found at Brohard Beach and Paw Park in Venice, about 20 miles south of Lido Key. This is the only off-leash beach accommodation in Sarasota County!

Since 1999, pups have been gathering at Sarasota’s 17th Street Paw Park, where large and small dogs play off-leash in separate fenced areas; on leashes, these pups can walk with their families in the public park. Same at Lakeview Park in Sarasota: there’s a fenced-in area where dogs can frolic and play (with humans or other dogs) in a dog park as well as enjoy a walk around the park on a leash.

While some parks do not have specific areas designated for off-leash fun, there are many in and around Lido Key and Sarasota that have trails, paths, and walkways where you and doggie can spend lots of time.

Leashed dogs are welcomed to be walked around the three-mile outskirts of a 400-acre lake at The Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, as well as on hiking trails at the Celery Fields in Sarasota.

Leashed dogs can also take nature hikes and scenic walks in these Sarasota locales: Bayfront Park (where you can eat on the spacious patio with Daisy at the waterfront O’Leary’s Tiki Bar); Venetian Waterway Park; Red Bug Slough Preserve; Ackerman Park; Bee Ridge Park; Christopher Wheeler Park; Circus Hammock; Colonial Oaks Park; and Culverhouse Nature Park; and Ackerman Park.

All About Town

Restaurants and dog parks are not the only places on your Lido Key vacation where your pet can spend time with the family.

Stroll through the Sarasota Farmer’s Market with your pup by your side (similar farmer’s markets in Venice and Siesta Key also allow pups). Stop in for a doggie snack at Woof Gang Bakery in St. Armands Circle, where your fur child will chow down on house-baked as well as top brand treats.

Renting a boat? You’ll be pleased to know that many boat rental companies in the area allow your dog to join you on the water!

Pet-Friendly Rentals

When you and your furry best friend are thoroughly tuckered out from your adventures on the beach, in the dog park, and wandering the farmer’s market, it’s time to head back to your vacation rental for some much-needed R&R. At least it’s not hard to spend time at one of our Lido Key pet-friendly vacation rentals that fully welcome your dog as much as they welcome their human guests.

Whether you need a three-bedroom cottage or an eight-bedroom home, Lido Key Vacations rentals accommodate your dog or dogs (up to two max, total of 50 lbs.) for an additional fee. Dangerous breeds or dogs are not allowed.
